Blackmagic Studio Camera
The Blackmagic Studio Camera Studio has two models, the Studio Camera 4K Pro and Studio Camera 4K Plus, both suitable for working in UHD-4K environments (3840x2160 up to 60p) or HD, offer quality and film texture along with the usual technical performances in performing environments.
Manufactured to be light and very resistant, they include a 4K native sensor, active Micro 4/3 mount (which allows control of diaphragm, focus and focal distance using compatible objectives), HDMI Out, and an integrated 7” HDR LCD touch screen (2000 nits and 1920x1200), with included visor and side buttons. The own values are a dynamic range of 13 steps to achieve intense blacks and bright whites, a primary ISO of 400 or 3200 in high school, this recommended when filming in low-light conditions, while the electronics of both cameras support a gain from -12 dB (100 ISO) to +36 dB (25.600 ISO).
Both models include 2 microphones on the side of the screen, communication system with double minijack 3.5 for micro or micro-auricular. They also support Tally indicators for their work in dish environments and along with Blackmagic Atem video mixers. Another common factor is the two USB-C 3.1 ports (up to 5GB/s) designed for recording (in one), or the addition of an optional focus control and focal distance (Focus Demand and/or Zoom Demand). In the case of recording the work codec is Blackmagic RAW to select between degrees of compression.
The two models include a tripod mount, with capacity to mount bars to install portafiltros or teleprompters.
Blackmagic Studio Camera - Features
Designed for live productions
Although this model has been designed for live productions, it allows you to record Blackmagic RAW files on USB drives and can be used in any type of situations in which a tripod is used. With a 7-inch viewer, it is ideal for interview programs, newsletters, sports, educational materials, conferences, presentations and even weddings. The touchscreen includes side handles and physical controls that facilitate the tracking of planes and the use of the camera for long periods. At the same time, when being light, it can be easily transported when changing exteriors and performing different jobs.
Revolutionary design
The main broadcasters use expensive studio cameras that are large and difficult to move. The Blackmagic Studio Camera models offer all the benefits of these units with an extraordinary viewer in a lightweight and compact polycarbonate design reinforced with innovative technology. The 7-inch viewer is ideal for live productions and facilitates the frame of the shots. In turn, the touch screen includes settings menus and controls for brightness, contrast and focus indicator. It should also be noted that the camera includes a mount for tripods.
Exceptional performance in low light conditions
In advanced cameras, the ISO value measures sensor sensitivity to light. The higher this number, the higher the increase in profit, which allows to roll with natural light or even at night. In the Blackmagic Studio Camera models, this parameter ranges from -12 dB (100 ISO) to +36 dB (25 600 ISO), in order to optimize noise reduction and granulosity in the images while maintaining the full dynamic range of the sensor. The primary ISO value is 400 and is ideal for recording in studies, while the secondary value of 3200 is recommended when filming in low-light conditions. The gain can be adjusted on the camera or remotely from a mixer using a SDI or Ethernet connection.
Film images in live productions
Blackmagic's extraordinary 4K sensor and fifth-generation colorimetry offer the same technology as digital cinematographic cameras in order to obtain exceptional images during live productions. In addition, integrated etalonage functions allow even greater quality improvement and can be controlled from the mixer. The dynamic range of 13 steps provides more intense blacks and bright whites that are ideal when making chromatic adjustments. In turn, the 4096 x 2160 sensor resolution facilitates HD and UHD recording, and all models support frequencies from 23.98 to 60 f/s.
Compatible with economic photographic objectives
Thanks to the popular Micro Cuatro Tercios mount, the Blackmagic Studio Camera models are compatible with a wide range of photographic objectives. These offer unmatched quality, as they have been designed to obtain high resolution images. In addition, the active mount allows you to adjust the lens at a distance, and it is possible to add controls to modify the focus and the focal distance from the handles of the tripod, as well as the larger study chambers. This provides the possibility of following the shots and handling the drive without removing the hands of the tripod, in order to avoid possible shakes, and it is achieved the same experience as with more expensive B4 targets.
7-inch viewer to facilitate the frame
The large-resolution viewer revolutionizes how to work with the camera, as it facilitates the frame of the shots. The Pro version includes a bright HDR screen that is ideal when filming under sunlight. In addition, it shows the status of the drive and the recording, the histogram, the focus indicators, the audio level, the frame guides and other data superimposed to the image, and allows to apply 3D conversion tables to the shots, in order to see them with the desired appearance. It also provides the possibility to access the menus and customize the camera settings. The included visor can be folded to protect the screen by transporting the drive and is compatible with the Blackmagic Studio Viewfinder device.
Physical controls and touchscreen
The Blackmagic Studio Camera models include physical controls and buttons, as well as controls on the touchscreen. Those on the right side of the unit allow to modify the brightness, contrast and focus indicator. The latter is very useful, as it facilitates the precise adjustment of the details in the brightest areas in order to achieve a perfect approach. The three buttons on the left side are programmable, and it is possible to assign different functions or change them through the menus. The touch screen also provides important information for the shooting, superimposed to the image, and provides the opportunity to access the different camera settings.
Pilot light for air signal
The pilot light is lit in red when the camera is in the air, green if the images captured correspond to an advance, or orange if it is an isolated recording. It also includes transparent numbers to identify cameras more clearly. The Blackmagic Studio Camera models are compatible with the SDI and HDMI signaling systems used in the different ATEM mixer models. When the director alternates between different cameras, the information is sent to the different units through the return SDI signal, which allows to activate the pilot light from which it is in the air. In turn, this eliminates the need to configure complex wirings and facilitates preparation for work.
Communication with the director
Unlike other mass consumption cameras, the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro version includes SDI connections that facilitate communication between the person who handles the mixer and cameramen during live events. In this way, the director can select different shots and prevent multiple units from capturing the same image simultaneously. The 5 pin XLR connector that allows the communication to be entered is on the side of the camera and is compatible with all types of professional headphones. The link is set through channels 15 and 16 of the SDI connection between the camera and the mixer, through the return signal, which provides the opportunity to use a wide variety of audio devices.
Professional connections
The Blackmagic Studio Camera models are compatible with a wide range of equipment. The HDMI connection is ideal for ATEM Mini mixers and allows to activate the pilot light, control the cameras and start recording from them. In addition, these cameras include connections for microphones and headphones, as well as two USB-C expansion ports. The Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro version has been designed for professional work dynamics and offers XLR inputs for balanced audio. In turn, 10G Ethernet technology facilitates the transmission of all signals through a single connection, using a 6A copper cable, much easier and cheaper.
Four connection modes
Blackmagic Studio Camera models can be connected in different ways. The HDMI connection allows you to use ATEM Mini mixers, transmit the images, activate the pilot light, control the cameras and start the recording automatically via a single cable. In turn, the SDI 12G technology of the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K Pro version provides the possibility of connecting mixers such as the ATEM Constellation model and sending a return signal to the camera in order to control or initiate a communication, for example. Alternatively, it is possible to do all this through a common 6A Ethernet cable, thanks to the 10G Ethernet port.
HDMI connectivity
The HDMI output allows you to connect mixers like the ATEM Mini model, activate the pilot light, adjust the color of the images and start the recording automatically from the mixer.
SDI connectivity
The SDI model allows you to enter a bidirectional communication between the camera and the mixer through the respective output and the entry for the return signal, in addition to controlling the unit.
Ethernet connectivity
The 10G Ethernet connection allows to power the camera and transmit all signals using a single 6A copper cable, including images, return signal, communication and control of the drive.
USB connectivity
It is not necessary to have a mixer, as the large screen facilitates the shooting and frame of the shots, and the camera allows to record Blackmagic RAW files on USB drives.
