Blackmagi Video Assist 7" 12G HDR, monitor/recorder allows you to monitor and record images with all types of cameras in any HD, UHD, 2K and DCI 4K format.
Its 7-inch bright HDR display and 2500 nits supports the use of three-dimensional conversion tables and includes professional graphical representations, as well as tools that enable the focus and exposure to be controlled and accurately framed.
On the other hand, SD card slots facilitate the storage of files in DNx or ProRes 4:2:2 format 10 bits. In addition, this model offers two mini XLR connections with 48 V phantom power supply and a noise threshold of -128 dbV to capture audio with unprecedented sharpness. It should be noted that the recorded material can be edited immediately, as there is no need to convert it.

Blackmagic Video Assist models are so versatile that they can perform hundreds of tasks. When using them with a camera, they provide a large viewer with modern recording codecs, focus tools and integrated conversion tables. Also, thanks to its various indicators, they offer the possibility of testing various equipment used during live broadcasts to ensure its proper operation. In addition, like HyperDeck units, they can be used to master or play clips, with the purpose of adding ads or promotions to the images emitted. They even record in isolation the signals from each camera.
Modern design with advanced technology and extraordinary displays
All Video Assist models have a touchscreen that includes controls to record and play sequences, view graphical representations and adjust the focus functions. Seven-inch versions include analog audio inputs and two SD card slots, in order not to interrupt the recording. For its part, the 12G models offer HDMI connections and a USB-C port that allows connecting external storage drives. In addition, all versions have a pilot light on the back, a speaker on the front panel and a headphone connection. Video Assist devices have two Sony L series battery compartments that provide the possibility of changing them without stopping the recording.

Video Assist devices include 5- and 7-inch bright touch screens that facilitate the frame of the shots and enable precise focus. These show important information during the shooting, such as time code, reproduction controls, vometers and a histogram to evaluate the exposure. It is even possible to customize the screen by adding or removing different options, for example, the name of the open file, the focus indicator, the zebra and false color function, the frame guides or the conversion tables. These tables allow to monitor the quality of the shots with the desired appearance and color, and can also be integrated into the file if necessary. When recording in Blackmagic RAW format, the table is added to the metadata, so it is possible to disable it during postproduction.

Integrated Indicators to meet various standards
Video Assist devices include signal graphical representations that allow a precise level of exposure in cameras and also ensure compliance with the broadcasting standards. In this sense, they function as a portable waveform monitor that provides the possibility to see the level of luminance of the source or the signal reproduced. For its part, the vector shows color intensity at a 100% SDI reference level. In turn, the RGB chart is ideal for setting appropriate chromatic levels, while the histogram provides information on the distribution of lights and shadows or the loss of details. It should be noted that these indicators can overlap the image, and in turn it can be displayed in a small window at the top right of each indicator.
HDR models with wide chromatic spectrum bright displays
The 12G models are compatible with the latest working dynamics for high dynamic content (HDR), thanks to its bright chromatic spectrum display. This allows the use of monitors in outdoor shoots in full daylight. For its part, graphical representations are compatible with that dynamic range. and files are labeled with the corresponding information, while SDI and HDMI outputs automatically detect HDR signals. PQ and HLG formats of static metadata are processed according to the ST2084 standard. In addition, the wide chromatic spectrum of the screen provides compatibility with Rec spaces. 2020 and Rec. 709, and even supports contents in DCI-P3 format.
Recreates cinematic styles with 3D conversion tables
In recording, digital cinematographic cameras use a logarithmic chromatic space in order to preserve the dynamic range, which is ideal for the postproduction process. However, when these images are seen on a monitor, they may look off, without too much contrast. In this sense, the three-dimensional conversion tables are the ideal solution, given that they allow to attribute some appearance during the shooting to have a better idea of how the material will look when editing it. These can be temporarily applied by monitoring image quality or integrating to Blackmagic RAW files to use when editing. The different Video Assist models are compatible with three-dimensional (.cube) conversion tables of 17 and 33 points. It is also possible to use the devices, for example, "Extended Video" or "Film to Video".
Metadata to expedite the edition
The advanced virtual clacket allows you to add metadata to any shot easily. To access it, just slide the finger over the screen to the left or right. The Video Assist devices record the sound with a quality far superior to that of most cameras, so it is not necessary to carry additional audio equipment. When working with SDI formats, it is possible to record 2, 4, 8 or 16 real-time audio channels. In order to connect microphones, the 7-inch versions have two XLR inputs with ghost power that support a sample rate of 192 kHz in 16 and 24 bits per sample. In turn, it is possible to change the ballistics of audio meters (VU or PPM). The Blackmagic Video Assist 12G models offer cutting-edge audio technology in order to ensure a very low noise threshold and minimal distortion, so they are ideal for broadcasts and digital cinematography projects.
Compatible with the most used edition programs
Files generated on Video Assist devices are compatible with all operating systems and most editing programs. In order to format the storage units, the exFAT or HFS+ system is used, so that they can connect directly to a computer equipment in order to access its content. In this sense, DaVinci Resolve is ideal for these models, as it allows editing, editing, post-production of audio and creating visual effects in a single application. It can also be downloaded for free and works on Mac, Windows and Linux computers. Other popular compatible programs include Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro X.
