Full Frame Sensor of 36 x 24 mm for cinema
The VENICE 2 has one of the two Full Frame 36 x 24 mm image sensors, specifically designed for the demands and performance of the high-level photography direction. Each of them offers an extraordinary sensitivity, latitude and color reproduction, and as the sensor units are interchangeable, users can easily change the sensors without the need for additional firmware, and can even use the sensor of their original VENICE.
The 8K sensor captures images of up to 8640 x 5760, while the 6K sensor up to 6048 x 4032. Both offer a powerful overstatement to get incredible 4K images.
In Full Frame you can use the full width of the sensors (6048 or 8640 pixels) to achieve a spherical display format of 2,39:1 or a large format. In terms of creativity, the Full Frame can be used in many ways; for example, for a very low field depth or for superpanoramic recording.
Interchangeable image sensors
The VENICE 2 allows you to easily remove and replace the image sensor to switch between the 8.6K sensor and the original 6K as needed. This also means that the 6K sensor can be exchanged between the VENICE 2 and the original VENICE.
Super35 anamorphic decompression
For anamorphic recording and production, a variety of decompression formats are supported that allow for greater creative selection of objectives.
Super35 17:9 and 16:9
Natively, VENICE 2 supports these popular image sizes, and the 8K sensor allows you to capture 5.8K video material in these modes. Also, the Super35mm lenses can be used with current PL mount.
Exceptional level
The 8K VENICE 2 sensor has an exceptional latitude of 16 steps, while the 6K sensor has more than 15. This means that both cameras can offer extraordinary images with very little noise, in conditions ranging from full sunlight to virtually no light. VENICE 2 also stands out in high dynamic imagery, thus providing unprecedented creative freedom in terms of gradation.
Wider color range for greater expression
VENICE 2 can overcome the color space BT.2020, with a wider range of colors than DCI-P3. This means that you can play the actual colors of the scene in an attractive way in front of the target. The camera also provides a wide range of colors in the gradation package, where it uses the Sony S-Log3 established workflow and the S-Gamut3 ultra-blue space. In addition, the VENICE 2 6K and 8K sensors reproduce the colors almost perfectly, which further enhances your gradation experience.
High table frequency
VENICE 2 can capture at speeds up to 120 fps in 4K and 90 fps in 6K when using the 6K sensor. In combination with a license for anamorphic objectives, it also reaches speeds of up to 75 fps in 4K 4:3 and 72 fps in 4K 6:5. With the 8K sensor, VENICE 2 reaches 72 fps at 8.2K and 120 fps at 5.5K.
Quick score
The tilt effect is something we don't need when we're recording. VENICE 2 has high-speed reading sensors that minimize the characteristic tilt effect of CMOS sensors.
ISO double base
The VENICE 2 has dual-base ISO, which means the 8K sensor offers ISO base 3200 in addition to ISO base 800, while the 6K sensor has ISO base 500 and ISO base 2500. The ISO high base of 3200 offers exceptional results in high-ranking dynamic captures in low-light conditions, with a latitude of exposure from 6 steps above up to 10 below the medium grey to 18 %, making a total of 16 steps. The ISO high base of 2500 offers a latitude of exposure from 6 steps above to 9 below the medium grey to 18 %, making a total of more than 15 steps.
16-bit internal X-OCN recording and 4K ProRes in a compact body
As a novelty of VENICE 2, photography directors and colorists can take advantage of the incredible creative possibilities of 16-bit X-OCN recording without the need for an external recorder. Users can enjoy the full dynamic range and color reproduction of the image sensor, capturing 4K ProRes 4444 and 422 HQ. With such a compact design and without external engraver, the configuration is faster and easier, especially in cardanes, steadicam and drones.
Anamorphic aesthetics
The compatibility of VENICE 2 with anamorphic objectives allows you to capture incredible images. If combined with the ability to record with 4:3 and 6:5 aspect relationships with high horizontal resolutions, users can enjoy a brightness of the target, a bokeh effect and an amazing emotional impact. The 8K sensor can record in 5.8K with a 6:5 aspect ratio, while the 6K sensor can capture in 4K 6:5 and 4:3.
Flexibility of the lens mount
PL mount optic
VENICE 2 includes the industry's standard PL mount optics and supports all PL Super35 and Full Frame objectives, both spherical and anamorphic. The lens mount includes contacts compatible with Cooke/i technology, and target information is recorded as metadata, frame by frame. We also added compatibility with ZEISS eXtended Data.
Mount in E with locking lever
The E mount offers an unmatched level of compatibility with Sony's goals. The mount in E (with locking lever) offers users the possibility of changing target by turning the ring instead of the target. This means that, in most cases, it is not necessary to remove the support rings from the objectives, which allows saving time during production.
8-step mechanical ND filters
VENICE 2 follows the world premiere of the VENICE, with an 8-step mechanical ND filter mechanism with servo control incorporated into the chamber chassis. With its exceptional ND range of 0.3 (1/2 = 1 step) to 2.4 (1/256 = 8 steps), it reduces the time lost by changing external filters during the shooting. In addition, ND filters significantly increase VENICE flexibility in remote control operations with drones or cranes, as well as in waterproof housings.
Designed to survive
The VENICE 2 chassis has been designed to be incredibly resistant and has been thoroughly tested in the harshest conditions. In addition, the main frame structure has allowed the body to be designed to be more durable. The ventilation system is completely isolated from all electronic components to prevent between dust, sand or water. And besides being silent, the fan can be cleaned or even changed during the shooting quickly and easily.
Family and intuitive operation during shooting
VENICE 2 is equipped with control screens on both sides of the camera, with the same layout as in the VENICE. The 3? LCD display provides the camera assistant with quick access to the settings during the recording, while on the other side, the camera operator's OLED mini-screen makes it easy to control the most common access functions, such as the ND filter, shutter, FPS, white balance and exposure rate.
High performance recording formats
VENICE 2 offers complete production flexibility. The camera is compatible with internal recording on X-OCN or 4K ProRes recording on AXS memory cards, which eliminates the need to connect additional recording hardware.
X-OCN are the English acronyms of the original 16-bit wide range of cameras
The complete 4K, 6K and 8K* resolution, which has an extraordinary color reproduction, adapts perfectly to S-Gamut 3, the third generation of chromatic development of Sony. In particular, the 16-bit linear tonal gradation retains the full dynamic range of the camera, with much more capacity for visual expression than digital formats of 10 or 12-bit.
16-bit X-OCN offers a significant reduction in file size, making working with the full resolution content of the 8.6K or 6K VENICE 2 sensor is much more practical in terms of file transfer time and storage requirements.
Apple ProRes 4K
Apple ProRes, including ProRes 4444 and Apple 4K ProRes 422 HQ, are very popular in postproduction. In addition, VENICE 2 is compatible with Apple ProRes 4K. This eliminates the need for transcoding, as these 4K ProRes formats can be used directly in the camera.
Advanced LUT Compatibility
The VENICE 2 firmware version 2.0 supports CDL and LUT data integrated into MXF clip files. These are engraved in the same folder as an independent clip to simplify postproduction workflow.
